The Pad Project and GLI: Pads for Schools

About

The Pad Project grew out of the Girls Learn International Chapter at Oakwood School in North Hollywood, CA and for the last 7 years our organizations have worked closely together on menstrual hygiene advocacy. Now we’re teaming up to support the menstrual health needs of students and families in Southern California school districts with our joint initiative: Pads for Schools!

Due to school closures and job losses caused by COVID-19, many families struggling financially are in need of extra support. To help, many school districts have opened food distribution centers, which provide meals to students who need them. The Pad Project and GLI are also concerned about students lacking access to menstrual supplies. California Assembly Bill 10 requires public schools that meet a 40% student poverty threshold to provide free menstrual hygiene products in school restrooms. Because of school closures, many students have now lost access to a reliable source of menstrual supplies.

That’s why Girls Learn International and The Pad Project have created a menstrual supplies wishlist for Santa Ana Unified School District. Our organizations want to support SAUSD’s efforts to provide menstrual products to students and families in their communities.

Santa Ana Unified School District is working hard to support students and families during the pandemic by providing meal distribution sites and resource referrals. Due to recent financial difficulties, many people can no longer afford menstrual supplies, so SAUSD is working to provide those as well. Support their efforts by donating menstrual products today!
